4.5 and Certified Handler 6.1 A/B Bundle

The Funeral Directors Association of New Zealand in partnership with Disruptive Training Ltd. is proud to offer the Part 4: Regulation 4.5  and 6.1 A/B Certified Handler course to its members.

Why am I taking this course?

Put simply, because New Zealand law says you must be trained and supervised if you interact with or are exposed to dangerous substances in your daily occupation.

Because embalming products are highly hazardous, they must be handled by people who have been trained to use them safely.

Many embalming products must be handled by, or under the supervision of, a certified handler who is responsible for them. A Certified Handler is someone who has specific knowledge and experience on how to use particular hazardous substances safely.

Whether you need Certified handlers certification will depend on the type and amount of products stored at your funeral home.

If you have any of the following chemicals present in your mortuary/ funeral home you require 4.5 and 6.1 A/B training and a Certified Handlers Certificate.

  • Formalin
  • Paraformaldehyde
  • Formaldehyde
  • Glutaraldehyde
  • Methanol
  • Phenol

How long will the course take?

The course will likely take you up to 2 hours, its very comprehensive as it is subject to rigorous WorkSafe standards, the good news is you do not have to do it in one sitting. The course is divided up into chapters which will take 8-15 minutes each and you will take a knowledge check at the end of each chapter before progressing on to the next section.

Who pays for the course?

Your employer, or yourself if you are the PCBU, (Person Conducting a Business or Undertaking). If you are a sole trader or an individual, you can pay for both 4.5 and Certified Handlers (theory) through our paywall. If your employer requires you to complete this training, then they will issue you with an access code via email to allow you to start your training.
